We're waiting for you, Spring!!!

Next Thursday is our field trip. We are going to the Adventure Science Center in Nashville. Make sure to have your permission slip and admission fee turned in by next Monday. Also, you either need to bring a sack lunch or let Ms. Stevens know that you want one from the cafeteria.

In math, we are starting geometry and will focus on 2 and 3 dimensional shapes and symmetry. We also be making real-world connections.

In science we are finishing up our study on matter and next week will begin a study on exploration and settlement.

We have really started test practice and have been doing lots of open response questions. I'm so proud of all the accomplishments and improvements that they've made.

No more snow!!!!

Looks like the snow dances we've been doing in class have worked...maybe a little too well. Between all the snow, we have finished up division and just began fractions today. The students seem to have quite a bit of basic knowledge about fractions already.

We are still continuing to take our multiplication timed tests. The deadline is February 14th. The next week, we will have our taco party. The students will receive drink, food, and toppings according to what level they passed. Please continue to practice these facts with your child at home!

We are also learning about economics in social studies. We have just finished learning about needs and wants and goods and services. Next week, we will work on scarcity and barter and trade.

What a great second semester it has been so far! We welcome Ms. Amber Creek to our 3rd grade "family." We miss our old friends, but are glad to have more room in our class. We just finished our mulitplication unit, but will continue to practice our facts everyday. Please continue to review these with your kiddos. We also just wrapped up our unit on rocks, soil, gases, and fossils. We did several studies and experiments. We also made our own "fossils." This was such a fun unit. Next we will be studying economics. In math, we will move on to division.

Testing is just right around the corner, so we will be reviewing everything we've learned and will hit the open responses hard.

Fall Fun!!!

Fall Festival is Friday, October 23rd. Our 3rd grade basket is gift cards. Please visit local businesses and ask for gift cards to be donated. You do not have to purchase these if you do not wish to do so. Last year our basket was a huge hit and we're hoping that it will be a success this year as well!

Next Friday, we will be having a Halloween party. If you wish to bring chips, cookies, cupcakes, drinks, etc, please let me know!

I just wanted to say thanks for those who purchased items from the wish list! This is a big help! This week, we have been working on settling into our routine. We've been completing tests to see where the students are academically. Next week we will take the GMADE test for math.

Don't forget that book talks are due tomorrow. We have been working on weather this week in science and have really focused on the water cycle. Today we conducted an experiment where we made clouds in jars. Tomorrow we will have a quiz on the water cycle. In math, we are working on graphs and just finished up bar graphs today.
